Young Inuit filmmakers enrich culture and community by sharing creativity online

Arviat Film Society members Evano Jr Aggark and Shelton Nipisar describe how they use video to retain their culture and language, inspire youth, gather knowledge from Elders and communicate with people in their community and beyond. Through the QINIQ network, they use Facebook, blogs, and Youtube to share their perspectives on life in Arviat, Nunavut. Culture, Language, Elders and Youth (CLEY)

Carmen Levi, from Culture, Language, Elders and Youth (CLEY), hosts a meeting with the board and discusses the meeting. Staff from CLEY describe the meeting and the new initiatives that were developed. Eva Aariak, Nunavut Language Commissioner, shares plans of updating all signs in Nunavut to ensure they are in Inuktitut. The Commission is also looking for staff to ensure that the laws to help preserving our language are enforced.

Morgan Haire discusses housing in Ottawa for the homeless as they are in the process of opening a new shelter through Tungasuvvingat Inuit. Norman Aglagjak shares artifacts that they have collected and where they will be placed in the Prince of Wales Heritage Museum in Yellowknife. Josie Kusugak ITK president discusses housing in Nunavut and the possible program funding that they have requested from the government.

Chair Simon Awa shares about voting rights and rules. They are currently looking for board members, plans for the meeting they will conduct and update the policies and laws.

She would like it to continue and spread to other communities. Inusiq speaks with Ed Picco and Paul Okalik and discusses how to best help the homeless people in Iqaluit. Carmen Levi discusses the CLEY budget plans. Culture, Language Elders and Youth ley is the GN department responsible for language preservation., Zacharias Kunuk discusses the process of making his award winning movie Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner. He talks about the challenges of filming in the north and the difficulty of funding.
